This work explores the ‘operative fiction’ of faux finish - considering extinct or unavailable scales of lumber for building. This thematic piece derives from fictional scenarios and actively participates in the production of new fictions through role play. As a result, the structure becomes something of a set piece. This work was the result of a research residency sponsored by the BEMIS Center for Contemporary Arts. During this residency I developed a complex printing tool which produced oversized faux finishes. These finishes were then applied to various architectural contexts through playful mashup of architectural type and fictional material.
